About Netley

An attractive small village where history meets the sea. Edging Southampton Water, Netley is home to Royal Victoria Country Park which sweeps down to the shores of Southampton Water with waterside views and plenty of picnic areas along with the Royal Victoria Steam Railway. It is an ideal place for jogging, water sports and kite flying. Netley has three dinghy sailing clubs based on the shores of Southampton Water.

The historic ruins of ‘Netley Abbey’ are extensive and inspiring, surrounded by green lawns and set against a backdrop of mature trees. The buildings that now comprise Netley Abbey ruins were first known to the monks of the Cistercian Order who lived in the Abbey for over three hundred years, commissioners of King Henry VIII, the first Marquis of Winchester.
