About Bursledon

Steeped in heritage, Bursledon was for centuries the centre for shipbuilding in southern England. Nelsons flag ship ‘The Elephant’ was built in Bursledon and The Elephant Boatyard was named after her. On the shore of the River Hamble adjacent to The Elephant Boatyard, overlooking Premiere Swanwick Marina, is the famous ‘Jolly Sailor’ public house which featured in the TV series ‘Howards Way’.

Bursledon boasts the completely restored historic 19th century Windmill.

Most of ‘Old’ Bursledon is a conservation area with charming period village properties and country lanes.
